Collected plants, insects and other animal specimen for the British Museum. Studied the local population, religion, culture.
As a result of her travels wrote "Travels in West Africa", and was often invited as a guest lecturer.
Traveled to South Africa in 1899, during the Anglo-Boer War.
According to 'African History', started smoking in South Africa.
Died of enteric fever (Typhoid fever).
