Born in 't Zand (Schagen). vd Br & Fr mentions she also translated Carmen Sylva and Tolstoj. Partially or at some point completely deaf. (Bosch, 2005, p. 249) From 1896 untill her death, Van der Tuuk lived together with friend Rose Roosegaarde Bisschop (1856-1940). Teacher and translator from English and other languages (after 1885) (o.a. Don Quichotte, for children) Head editor of Excelsior: Maandschrift voor jonge dames (1896-….) Friend of the famous Dutch author Multatuli (cf. his correspondence). Visited the Driedaagsche samenkomst tot bevordering van de Openbare Zedelijkheid (meeting against prostitution) in 1898.
