Born in Denmark as the daughter of skipper Thomas Nielsen Kragh and Anne Kirstine Pedersen. Studied to be a teacher in Copenhagen from 1840-42. In 1843 she married protestant minister of Sunnmøre (Norway), Hans Conrad Thoresen, and became stepmother to his 5 children. She had 4 children of her own. Henrik Ibsen was her son-in-law. As a widow she moved back to Copenhagen in 1862.
Described the eroticism of the female subject (Broomans, KNAW).
In the 1860s she was considered an avant-garde writer.
