Provisional Notes Born in Vienna, her father Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic was Serbian and her mother Anna Krause was Austrian. She was bilingual (spoke German and Serbian), knew Russian and French. in 1858 she married Aleksa Vukomanovic with whom she had a son Janko Vukomanovic. After one year of marriage she became a widow (her husband died of tuberculosis). She also lost her son - he died in St. Petersburg at the age of 19.
