Ilona Jalava was the daughter of Antti Jalava, chief editor of the magazine Uusi Suomi and Finnish teacher, and Alma Jalava, who was active in many organizations. Ilona Jalava herself was a textile artist, who wrote and translated many books about handicrafts. She was also a teacher of handicrafts and kept a boarding house where many famous Finnish artists stayed. JWjul14
