Juliana Jovicic (nov09):
She was one of the most important persons for the Serbian and Slavic literature. She translated the Serbian folk poems from Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic from Serbian into German and published them in Germany in 1824 and 25. That was very important for Serbian literature to gain a place in world literature. A lot of other translators for other languages used the translations of Talvj. She was under the influence of Goethe's view of translating poems and literature, and against the views of Jakob Grimm and Kopiter. She sent her translations to Goethe and Goethe hat a very positive opinion of them. Her participation in transnational cultural dynamics and to the overlooked role of smaller, less internationally known literatures within the larger European context is enormous.
