Provisional Notes The first female docent in the Nordic countries. A praised historian, who rote about Marie Antoinette among other things. Fought for women's right to study at the university. Friend with Alexandra Kollontai. JWjan24 Alma Söderhjelm was the first female professor in Finland and the first female docent in Russia. Her field was history, especially the French revolution. She studied in Paris under the supervision of Alphonse Aulard. She defended her doctoral thesis 1900. Söderhjelm was very productive: she wrote 25 academic works and besides that poems, drama, novels etc. She wasn’t able to apply for a place of a professor at the beginning of her career, because she was a woman. She moved to Stockholm, where she associated with bohemian artists and was very famous. Later she got a professorate in Åbo Akademi (The Swedish University in Finland). JWapr14
