Gripenberg was a feminist and one of the first female Members of the Finnish Parliament. JWjan24
Alexandra Gripenberg was a Swedish-speaking gentry woman and didn’t ever really understand the Finnish-speaking common people. She become her education at home but her world changed when she worked as a secretary for Zacharias Topelius. She started writing fiction at an early age. Her dreams of a living as an author changed when she travelled to England and made the acquintance with the women’s movement. She continued travelling and giving lectures. In Finland she was active in the Suomen Naisyhdistys (Finnish Women’s association). She was also a member of the International Women’s association. 1904 she became a member of the parliament.
