Trygg-Helenius was a sobriety activist and also active in Settlement movement, women's movement and servant's society. JWjan24 Aili Trygg came from a Swedish-speaking family but became early a passioante Fennoman. She worked as a teacher among the proletariat and contributed newspapers. Traveling to England and USA changed her life; she founded a kansankeittiö (“people’s kitchen”) and a kansankoti (“peoples home”) to Helsinki. Those gave alternatives for pubs and possibilities for hobbys for the proletariat. Trygg-Helenius was also the editor of many children’s temperance magazines. Jwapr14
