Pennanen compeleted a teacher’s class in the home economy school and worked after that as an actress in Tampere. She had a relationship with the actor Aarne Orjatsalo and had a child with him. She caused a scandal by deciding to raise the child alone. Later she had another child with a Swedish professor – when the couple divorced, the child stayed with the father.
