Golitsyn gives birthdate as 1628 and death date as "after 1648" . Semi-legendary singer-songwriter; no precise evidence of authorship exists, though several folk songs in both Russian and Ukrainian are sometimes attributed to her. Marusya became a popular folk hero during the 19th century when a number of Russian and Ukrainian literary texts dramatized her role in the struggle for independence from Poland.
